In 2008, RE Resource Group challenged Cirencester Agriculture College to a Rugby Match, with RE donating £10 per point to The Rag Charity. On a wet and windy, cold Gloucester night at Old Centralians Rugby Club, the idea of “The Beavers Sports Society” was born, and over £400 was raised under floodlight, in what was to be a great evening of rugby and celebration.

The victors were CAC but The Beavers had made a statement of intent and The Festival Cup (so named because the first match coincided with Cheltenham Race Festival) has been fiercely competed for ever since, playing a variety of teams and raising money for a selection of charities.

Last year’s match saw the return of Cirencester Agriculture College, who again took the spoils with a 46 v 38 victory. Even the presence of South African World Cup legend Thinus Delport could not save The Beavers from relinquishing the cup, but £1,680 raised put a smile on all faces — and maybe the cup can be reclaimed this year?!

As founder, Richard East recognised that the support of his business would encourage a broader array of people to be involved with the charity. And so it was decided, that the link between RE Resource Group and The Beavers should be made a permanent one.

With the backing of the business Richard has been able to grow the Beavers into a formidable and fun sports society, raising thousands of pounds each year for nominated charities.

As the business has grown and diversified, with RE resource Group now incorporating “ Safehands Recruitment” , “ Ambrose Recruitment” ” Re Training” and still the backbone “RE People”, as well as The Kings Arms Stow on the Wold, the society has also diversified. The society now has the addition of an Arts section and in 2014 became a sponsor of The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham.

On a number of occasions, school children, vulnerable adults and people who just don’t always have the opportunity to enjoy our magnificent theatre, were taken as guests to a variety of shows and introduced to the world of stage. It is intended this year, to become more involved with the arts within the Gloucestershire community.
